The photograph basically show how hard it is for Chinese immigrants and resident of western nations to assimilate. There was always the negative perception that the locals have toward the immigrants. A lot of them believe that the immigrants are taking away their jobs and are responsible for their bad economic situation. So the treatment toward the immigrants tend to be unfriendly.

The photos  showed a community that usually referred to as China Town. It's a community where Chinese people usually live separately from the locals. They used their own language to conduct their activities there and still maintain the culture that they brought from the homeland.

Even though there is nothing inherently wrong with that, it somehow reveal that the Chinese immigrants experience a hardship in actually socializing and living together with the locals. If this is not the case, they will most likely live in the close proximity/ same residence area as the local , interact with the local with their language, and eventually adopt the local culture into their own.
