In 1873 The US supreme court made a decision to hold the rights and immunities clause of the 14th amendment against the constitution. After being put behind the slaughterhouse cases the supreme court had to with interpret the meaning of the Reconstruction Amendments passed after the Civil War. The slaughterhouse cases allowed legislature of the state to suspend the rights of black people. The court ruled against the other slaughter houses by a five to four vote. The power of the 14th amendment was weakened by the court in order to protect the full and equal rights of African americans.
