I'll list a few things.

First, I think you should find out if you're eligible to play the sport. Then find and purchase the equipment required. Go out looking for a coach, acquaintance, or friend who does the sport to see if they can help you learn more about it and maybe give you some tips.

1st. Practice. Practice makes perfect :)
2nd. Get correct gear for the sport of your choice
3rd. Try out for your schools team
4th. If you make the team then go to all meets and games to be successful
