What are lymphocytes?

Lymphocytes are a kind of white blood cells that are an indispensable part of the immune system. The lymphocytes are produced by the bone marrow.

Most of the lymphocytes produced by the bone marrow enter the blood. The remaining lymphocytes enter the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system includes the tonsils, spleen, and lymph nodes.

B cells are formed from 25% of the new lymphocytes produced and the remaining 75% of cells result in the formation of the T cells.

The T cells and B cells are categorized into two types -

Memory cells are the cells that remember the previous infections and work against them if they ever reenter the system.
