refer to the experiment below:

soil+baking soda+water → creates gas bubble

soil+vinegar → no gas bubble

The only possible explaination is that the baking soda reacts with acids in the soil. however,

alkaline+acids→salt+water

which doesn't creates gas, am I wrong?​

But I don't think that the explanation is correct because I think that it is the formation of both baking soda and water that makes it work...Vinegar doesn't make gas bubbles maybe because it hasn't reacted or maybe because it is not the right ingredient for the solution you are looking for.
