To be honest with you it would more likely be more easier to divide first

The reason to that is because dividing is harder then subtracting and if your subtract second it would just be easier
Given the equation, it would be easier to subtract first because it will help simplify the equation. By subtracting -2 from both sides you will be able to then divide 3x by 12 to get a whole number.
