This cannot be a defense because you, as a citizen of your state, are required to know what is legal or illegal. And carrying the fireworks even if they've been bought from other states, does not make it legal to be used in another state. What is illegal stays illegal, irrespective of where the items were procured.

State laws may differ from one state to another. So, what one finds or accepts legal may not be the same for another, which is why it is necessary to know and understand the law of a state.

In the given scenario, firecrackers are deemed illegal in one state whereas the same does not apply in the neighboring state.

By procuring firecrackers from the legal state, the buyer, in this case, myself, has the right to use the firecrackers whenever and wherever I want in that state.

But as the devices are illegal in my home state, I am not legally permitted to bring them home, even though I bought them from another state.

The rule of the law does not carry over to another state.

This means that just because I got the firecrackers from a state that legalizes it does not mean I can bring them home in my state where it is illegal.

So, bringing them or trying to bring them home is still illegal according to my state laws. Thus, there is and can be no defense for me.
