“An absence of compassion can corrupt the decency of a community, a state, a nation... I’ve come to believe that the true measure of our commitment to justice, the character of our society, our commitment to the rule of law, fairness, and equality cannot be measured by how we treat the rich, the powerful, the privileged, and the respected among us. The true measure of our character is how we treat the poor, the disfavored, the accused, the incarcerated, and the condemned.”

answer:

stevenson is arguing in the goodness in people and the importance in justice.

explanation:

"our commitment to the rule of law, fairness, and equality cannot be measured by how we treat the rich, the powerful, the privileged, and the respected among us"

importance in justice, no one is above the law, the belief that we are all equal.

"the true measure of our character is how we treat the poor, the disfavored, the accused, the incarcerated, and the condemned."

goodness in peole, the kindess of our hearts for every human.

extent to which i agree:

i agree with him compeletly. and to add to that, go far beyond simply being kind to people, or going out of your way to be available or helpful to those in who are less fortunate. be human, be kind, have love for your common man. we all bleed, we all love, we all lie, we all die.
