Sonia is planning a rectangular vegetable garden using a roll of border fencing that is 45 3/4 feet long. If she makes the width of the garden 10 1/2 feet , what must the length be?
Answer: 12 3/8
10 1/2 + 10 1/2= 21
45 3/4 - 21 = 24 3/4
24 ÷ 2 = 12
Change the 3/4 into 8ths = 6/8
Divide that in half which gives you 3/8
So the length is 12 3/8
First Divide 45.75 by 2 ( to only get length and height ) then get 22.875 and subtract 10.5 (THE WIDTH) the quotient will be 12.375 So 12 3/8 is the length
