Read the following journal entry from a soldier prior to the Battle of Béxar. Based on the description, which side do you think he is fighting for? Explain your answer.

It was a bitter cold day and another skirmish broke out a few miles west of the town. Tonight, as I sat beside the campfire along the river, I noticed the men arguing about the General. There has been talk of bringing in someone new. We have been highly successful so far but we have fewer soldiers and weapons than the opposition and I’m concerned it will affect our chances. I hope we decide to take action soon- it’s getting colder every day.
