In Act I, Scene 1 of The Diary of Anne Frank, Otto Frank has returned to the Secret Annex where he and his family hid during the Holocaust. In your journal, begin a K-W-L chart about the Holocaust. - In the Holocaust, Jews were persecuted by Nazi Germany

- Jews in Germany often hid in the homes of people who were willing to provide them shelter after it was too dangerous to try to escape the country

- During the Holocaust, food and necessities were rationed strictly

- Jews who were discovered had been taken to concentration camps where they were tortured and killed

- Families harboring Jews were also taken to concentration camps too. Sometimes they were killed immediately when they were discovered.
