A polygon is shown on the graph

What effect will a translation 3 units down and 2 units left have on the polygon? Be sure to address how it could impact the angles, side lengths, and congruency between the original pre-image and the image.

so translation means that the points are moving on the graph

so the shape is moving down three then left two

it doesn’t change the shape in any way it just moves the shape

so all the sides and angles are the same

so the polygon is completely congruent with the premise and image since the shape didn’t change

The polygon  will be shifted 3 units down and 2 units left and there will not be any change in angles, side lengths, and congruency between the original pre-image and the image.

What is a polygon?

A polygon is a plane(closed) figure that is bounded by a finite number of straight line segments.

How to know what effect will the translation have on the polygon ?

According to the problem,

  • There is a translation of 3 units down and 2 units left have on the given polygon.

So, there will not be any change in its shape and size.

  • After the translation, all the points in the figure will be shifted 3 units down and 2 units left from the current position.

So, there will not be any effect or change in its angles and side lengths.

∴ There will not be any change in congruency.
