Primary consumers make up the second trophic level. They are also called herbivores. They eat primary producers- plants and algae and nothing else. For example, a grasshopper living in everglades is a primary consumer. Energy moves through an ecosystem in a single direction. First it flows from Sun to autotrophs, or producers. Then it flows from producers to primary consumers. Energy decreases as it goes upwards
