Throughout the Bible, the Holy Spirit is connected to God’s words. The Lord said He would put His words in His people’s mouths (Isaiah 59:21). In 2 Samuel 23:2, David said the Spirit of the Lord spoke through him. So in the Old Testament all prophets (Samuel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel....) were examples of the Holy Spirit involved in their lives.
In the New Testament, we see this clearer because Jesus started his ministry when the Holy Spirit descended on him in the shape of a dove in his baptism. So, he began to perform signs and wonders, heal the sick, forgive sins and rebuke demons. When Jesus ascended, the Holy Spirit was given to us to continue the work of God on earth. So, besides Jesus, the Holy Spirit was also involved in other’s people lives. Like Peter and his team that founded the church in Jerusalem and they were preaching and doing miracles in the name of Jesus, they were all done through the Holy Spirit. We can see this again in the life of Stephen, Paul, Timothy, James and others who shared the gospel and expanded the kingdom of God on earth, they all did this not because they could (they could not on their own strength) but because the Spirit of God empowered them to do it.
