Let 2x = Paul

Let x = Colin

Let 5x = Brian

2x + x + 5x = 78.40

8x = 78.40

x = 78.40 ÷ 8

x = 9.8

Brian gets 5(9.8) which is 49.

Colin gets 9.8.

Brain over Colin means 49/9.8 = 5.

Brain gets £5 more than Colin in terms of a tip.
