To be honest with you your parents happiness shouldn't be your priority,your priority should be your own happiness.Even though you see your self as failing your not failing its your parents failing to see how much effort you put in,in making them happy.But if your very keen and set foward on getting their appreciation I think you should just help them in every way possible since parents are human to and they get frusterated so just try to make their environment peaceful.
