The greasers are sort of like the gangsters, there not rich, they have messy/greasy hair (which is where they get their nickname), and they're tough. The Socs are the rich kids, the act mean and selfish and they think that they are better than the greasers. The main source of tension between these two groups is how they're not able to fully understand each other, they always act tough and mean around each other. The two groups really aren't so different, besides money-wise, and all they needed was to get to know one another to become friends.
