Relative age is the span of a rock layer or the remains it carries compared to other layers. The geologic age of a fossil plant, defense, geologic characteristic, or function, determined relevant to other bodies, foundations, features, or functions rather than in terms of years.
Absolute age is the numeric time of a bed of minerals or fossils. Absolute age can be prepared by using radiometric dating. The absolute age of an Earth element is a model of how old it really is in years. Some investigators favor calling it calendar age because the word suggests that the age can be planned on a calendar.
