Gender equality is when people of all genders have equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities in the society. Societies that value women and men as equal are safer and healthier. Gender equality is a human right. Everyone benefits from gender equality.
What were the early civilizations?
Early civilizations included - Egyptian civilization, Indus Valley civilization, Norte Chico civilization, Mesopotamian, Chinese civilization etc.
None of these societies faced inequality. Both men and women were treated equally with respect in society.
For instance, Egyptian women could have their own businesses, own and sell property, and serve as witnesses in court cases. They were even permitted to be in the company of a man.
Thus, gender equality is not considered a product of those early societies as it continues to be a problem of modern age.
