Even in countries where abortion is legally permitted, access to it can be difficult and costly ( mental stereotypes, doctor refusing to perform the abortion on moral grounds, not being able to afford it).
Woman's rights groups focus on and stress that:
- women have the moral right to decide what to do with their bodies,
- banning abortion puts a woman's life at risk by forcing her to use illegal abortionists,
- the right to abortion is vital for gender equality,
- the right to abortion should be a fundamental right,
- every woman should be granted access to a legal and risk free abortion, without any criminal prosecution for it.
