Whey migrants were ariving at ports of the United States such Ellis Island in New York, they experienced violence. Diferrent ethnic groups and whithe people that already lived in the United States were not so fond on receiving foreigners. It is difficult to expect good  relationships from Irish, Italians, and Jews in the same room, wainting to enter America.
