Because the group of small cells would have a greater surface area-to-volume ratio, so they are able to exchange materials with their surroundings more efficiently.

Answer: A group of small cells help an organism to maintain the homeostasis better than the large ones because the smaller cells can maximize the ratio of surface area to volume. The more will the ratio more will be the exchange of ions and molecules across the cell membrane per unit cytoplasm. The basal metabolic rate of smaller cells is much higher to that of bigger ones. The higher the metabolic rate the better is the maintenance of homeostasis.
