The sense of wonder he refers to is the natural curiosity and urge to learn  that all humans are born with.

The wonder that Socrates refers to in this phrase is the desire that humans have to learn more. This can also be described as curiosity, or thirst for knowledge. This is usually the desire that leads people to question the world that surrounds them and pushes them to learn more about it. In other words, this is the desire that pushes people to "philosophize."
