It is not true that formulas for elements never contain a subscript .
ELEMENTS:
- Elements are pure substances that contain only one kind of atoms. Chemical reactions cannot disintegrate elements into simpler forms.
- A subscript is a number or any character that is set slightly below the normal line of type.
- Two atoms of an element can be combined to form a molecule, which will reflect as the subscript of the element. For example, two oxygen atoms combine to form oxygen molecule (02).
- Oxygen in the above example is still an element, hence, it is not true that formulas for elements never contain a subscript .
