Professionsal athletes are getting paid so much because they are seen as heros. they are seen as someone who puts their mind to the task and works hard to get things done. It's more then a job, it's a life that they have tp be prepared for. They entertain and obtain meaning that because they entertain, they obtain fame and wealth and the sportmanship of other players of their game:)
