Answer:

Child labor during and after the industrial revolutions has changed in many ways. This includes but not limited to pay, safety, work hours, and work conditions. Nowadays you can start working around the age of 17. In the 1800’s, people would use children to get work done. This was changed for the safety of children.

In the 1800’s children would perform arduous and dangerous tasks. One of these tasks was coal mining. Children working only got around 70 cents a day. While coal mining, boys were exposed to many dangers. According to the article sited “the accident rate to children under sixteen was three times higher than for workers sixteen and over”. One of the dangers in coal mining is that sometimes the roof would fall on the children.

In the present, these tasks are now not as dangerous and offer more pay. The minimum age to work is now around 17. Today, teens can only work part-time. The minimum wage is around 13 dollars an hour. Facilities in which teens work in have emergency exit in case of a fire. This makes the environment more safe for the workers.

In conclusion, working environments are many times safer for younger workers than in the 1800’s. In the 1800’s there were many incidents and hazards when working. Nowadays, safety is increased and mandatory. These include fire triangles, emergency exits, and fire extinguishers. The amount of money teens receive in work is also increased.
