QRST is a rectangle. If RT = 3x – 8 and SQ = x + 16, find the value of x.

3x-8=×+16
3×=×+24
2x=24
x=12

Wait, you actually do not need the area.
The two expressions for RT and SQ are equal since they are both diagonals. This means 3x-8=x+16
If you solve the equation above, you get x=12
