A common flea can jump a distance of 33 cm. Suppose a flea makes five jumps of this length in the northwest direction. If the flea's northward displacement is 88 cm, what is the fleas westward displacement

Respuesta :

Solution: 33*5= 165   W= sqrt (165^2 - 88^2)                                                                                                                           Solve: 165^2 = 27225    88^2 = 7744                                                                                                                                 Now, Square root 27225/√ 19481 = 139.574353 (139.57)                                                 So, the fleas westward displacement is 139.57 cm
we kno that :

To the northwest =  33 x 5  = 165 cm

Northward displacement  = 88 cm

we need to use phytagoras

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

a^2 + 88^2 = 165^2

a^2 = 27225 - 7744

a = 139.5

Hope this helps
