Ancient Rome became stronger as a civilisation due to expansion in knowledge and wealth from neighbouring countries. Due to emperors like Caesar and Augustus, Rome conquered the Mediterranean and spread it’s knowledge and beliefs across Europe. Knowledge was gained from the countries they conquered which grew their understanding of the world, and led to some great inventions.

Rome was able to gain its empire in large part by extending some form of citizenship to many of the people it conquered. Military expansion drove economic development, bringing enslaved people and loot back to Rome, which in turn transformed the city of Rome and Roman culture.
