Answer:

Calcium atom has two valency electrons in its outermost energy level and these participate in bonding with the two of the six valency electrons in the outermost energy level of oxygen atom.

Calcium loses these two electrons and it gains a charge of +2 while Oxygen atom gains these two electrons and gains a charge of -2 hence gains stability

[tex]Ca {}^{2 + } \: \: and \: \: O {}^{2 - } [/tex]

As a result, Calcium oxide is formed due to ionic or electro valent bonding.

[tex]CaO[/tex]

So basically ionic bonding since the elements include a non-metal and a metal.Since they kinda bond with each other the product will be calcium oxide. And just remember each time and element loses an electron (the charge is always negative and usually the element is a metal) and each time an element gains an electron the charge is positive and is usually a non-metal
