This passage is showing that you can be incredibly smart or successful without education. The passage used the example of Harriet Tubman who was incredibly successful at leading 300 slaves to freedom. This great accomplishment had to have taken a great deal of intelligence and wit. Harriet obviously did not get her thinking skills from a traditional form of education. Therefore it shows that you do not need education to be intelligent or smart.
