Write a paragraph of 5-8 sentence explaining how change in the 1920’s led to a rise of fear and hatred by some people. What could leaders or people do to prevent this from happening in the future?

Respuesta :

In the 1920s, people’s freedom was taken away with the the ban of creation and sale of “intoxicating liquors”. On January 16, 1920, the federal Volstead act forced people to close every tavern, bar and saloon within the United States. Afterwards, it was illegal to sell any beverage with more than 0.5% alcohol. This made people mad, and drove people to do business underground. They traded with crime figures such as Al Capone in order to obtain alcohol.

People lived in fear during the rise of the Ku Klux Klan. The Ku Klux Klan is one of the most infamous American hate groups. The Ku Klux Klan has attacked Black Americans, Jews, immigrants, those of the LGBTQ community and Catholics. This clan has spread violence and hatred towards these individuals making these people fear them, they feared for their lives and their families. For example in the “Tulsa Race Riots” that was held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, 1921 between 21 and 200 Black people were murdered “after residents began rioting when a Black man was accused of raping a White woman. KKK founder W. Tate Brady participated in the riot” as mentioned by Essence. Also, the 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing “That Killed Four Black School Girls in Birmingham”, Alabama 1963 The KKK claimed responsibility for placing bombs underneath the Black church “just as Sunday school was coming to a close. The bombs later exploded and killed four Black schoolgirls between the ages of 11 and 14” also mentioned by Essence.
