American culture developed as an amalgamation of the ideas of these different people and ideas.
The United States is called the melting pot because there are different cultures which contributed to making it what it is today.
The people of these cultures brought different ideas, norms and beliefs such as:
- different ethnicities including the English, German, Irish, Italian, Chinese, Native American and Russians
- beliefs such as freedom, liberty, social contract and other enlightenment ideals
- religions such as Christianity - Catholicism and Protestantism - Islam, Buddhism and others
All of these came together to form a more inclusive American culture that would accommodate as many as possible. This became the American culture.
