the polymerases that replicate the DNA will not works on damaged DNA. Specifically, if the damages are missing nucleotides, nicks, loops, then the polymerases halt until the region is repaired. If there are mistakes in DNA due to frame shifts they do not effect the polymerase activity but there are repair mechanisms for that too. Lets say there no repair happening due to some reason and the DNA is replicated then the mistake will be carried on to the next generation. Such things happens in heriditory diseases where mutations create a pedigree.
