In the story, "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe, it is important that Okonkwo's favorite child be a girl that way he can recognize that women are not weak and that you can find manliness in someone that is female. On page 64 Okonkwo is thinking, "She should have been a boy" which is because he sees something in her but he wanted that to be in a boy. Ezinma seems to have the same qualities and almost act the same as Okonkwo's passed adopted son which can show he sees the manliness in her however, he needs to come to realize that the manliness can be seen well in someone that is a women, however he does not believe this, as well as it seems like the passed adopted son is the same as Enzima and this is something Okonkwo seems to be reminded of. It is also important because Okonkwo always seems to relate weakness to the female gender however, Enzima does not seem to fit this agenda and Enzima is also dying do to illness. Enzima could have possibly had an input on Okonkwo, because of her personality, however Okonkwo still wishes she was a boy because of her personality. In conclusion Enzima being a girl can have an impact on Okonkwo because of his beliefs which is important because it could change his beliefs of women being the sign of weakness or that women are all weak, because of Enzima's personality seeming to remind him of his sons.
