Explanation:

The Boston Massacre and the Intolerable Acts were two of the major incidents (among many others that piled up) that drove the colonists to proclaim independence.

Other items that the colonists were upset about were the Townshend Acts, the Olive Branch Petition, the Tea Act, the Sugar Act, the Writs of Assistance, the Stamp Act, etc.

Colonists were upset with taxes and felt as outsiders, Trading policies....

There were many determining variables,

One was taxation without representation, colonists were unhappy by England charging them for goods required in their colonies. The monarch would make living there nearly unimaginably hard for colonist. There were many additional problems such as the fact that they had no freedom of religion, they were compelled to have the faith that the king George had. Eventually the colonists got tired of this and felt freedom was their only option, this is when the paper called "common sense" was released permitting, which talked of independence from the monarch.
