Puritans were a group of religious people who broke away from the Roman Catholic Church because they wanted to worship in their own way.
After they had broken away, they left England to avoid religious persecution and have their religious freedom.
There existed puritan literature which consisted of religious books, primarily the Holy Bible and the various bible stories in it. This was done so that the people could be well aware of the things which happened in the Bible.
