Classify each polynomial based on its degree and number of terms. Drag each description to the correct location. Each description can be used more than once.

Respuesta :

This is about naming polynomials.

A) 5x³ - 8x; cubic polynomial; binomial

B)  -6 - x^(5) + 3x²; quintic polynomial; trinomial

C) ⅓x⁴; quartic polynomial; monomial

D) (6/7)x + 1; linear polynomial; binomial

E)  -0.7x²; quadratic polynomial; monomial

I have attached an image showing the missing polynomials.

  • A degree of a polynomial is simply defined as the highest exponent of a variable in that polynomial. For example;

- highest exponent of 1 is called linear polynomial

- highest exponent of 2 is called quadratic polynomial

- highest exponent of 3 is called cubic polynomial

- highest exponent of 4 is called quartic polynomial

- highest exponent of 5 is called quintic polynomial

According to number of terms we can also name a polynomial. For example;

- if it has only one term, it is called monomial

-if it has 2 terms, it is called binomial

- if it has 3 terms it is called trinomial

- if it has 4 terms it is called quadrinomial

  • A) 5x³ - 8x;

- Highest exponent is 3 and so it is called a cubic polynomial.

- Number of terms is 2 and so it called a binomial

  • B) -6 - x^(5) + 3x²;

- Highest exponent is 5 and so it is called quintic polynomial

- number of terms is 3 and so it is called a trinomial

  • C) ⅓x⁴;

- highest exponent is 4 and so it is called quartic polynomial.

- number of terms is 1 and so it is called a monomial

  • D) (6/7)x + 1;

- highest exponent is 1 and so it is called linear polynomial

- has 2 terms and so called binomial

  • E) -0.7x²:

- highest exponent is 2 and so it's called quadratic polynomial

- number of terms is 1 and so called monomial.
