When driving, your attention is sustained. There are several types of attention you use on your daily life, and they will depend on your needs and circumstances. There are four types of attention, which are:

  1. Sustained Attention: The ability to focus on one specifc task for a long period of time with little to no distraction.
  2. Selective Attention: The ability to select from many stimuli and focus on only one, while filtering other distractions.
  3. Alternating Attention: The ability to switch your focus between tasks.
  4. Divided Attention: The ability to process two or more responses or react to multiple stimuli simultaneosly. (Also known as Multi-tasking).

Since driving is a highly demanding task, sustained attention is required to maintain a good performance. (Don't text and drive !)
