My Diary in the anthracite mines
My name is Mark Thorson. My father was a miner, and his father before him and i work in the anthracite coal mines and these are my experiences.
Dear diary, i have always wanted to go into the coal mines just as my father died because i felt the call from the dust of the mines and i have never regretted a day of it, until recently.
In the anthracite coal mines where I work, we now work longer hours without overtime pay and we do not have a labor union that cannot fight for us, so some of us keep working because we need the money and do not have any other tangible skills.
Tom and a few others quit last week and they were immediately replaced. This showed us that we were not only expendable, but that the economy was so bad that people would do such a taksing work for so little pay.
