For blending, you can use a blending stump, but if you don't have one, you can use your finger or a paper towel (fold it small). Also, if you have different shades of pencils, (HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, etc.) you can use the higher Bs, as they are softer graphite. Have fun shading!
