Why do you think religious scenes were such a common subject matter for artists to use in etchings and intaglio prints? Why does this medium lend itself to the subject matter?
The first answer is that it was such a huge influence back in the day that provided such good scenes that it was perfect for artists. The second answer is the medium was good for still images and scenes.
