The diary of Anne Frank was written at a time when the German Nazis occupied the Netherlands and sought to kill the Jews. Anne's  fear as shown at the beginning of Scene 4 is revealed when Anne Frank wakes everyone in the hideout with a scream because she dreamt of being taken away by the Nazis.

Anne manages her fear by going to her father instead of her mother for comfort.
