Due to localized recession, Kenya’s economy began to plummet. Long established as a major supplier of high-end tea to the European continent, the Kenyan government decided to implement a policy which restricted the amount of tea imports and increased the taxes on their exported tea. The tea-drinking community in Germany has started protesting outside of the Kenyan Embassy in Berlin. Assuming direct discussions fail, how should the German government approach this international dispute, how would it be handled, and what is the most likely outcome?

If every direct discussions fail, the way that the German has to handle this issue is through mediation.

What is mediation?

This is a way of having disputes settled. The reason why a mediator is needed here is to try to get both countries to be in agreement.

There has to be negotiations and agreements for the two parties to agree on a way forward.

If the mediation goes on smoothly, the Kenyan government are more likely to reduce the restrictions.
