It is very true that he Sentencing Project in countries that are the most racially and ethnically diverse are very harsh when compared to homogeneous countries.
This is because race is a common factor that brings division or conflict in a country and people tend to be biased towards their own race and tends to trait other race unequally.
How does race affect Sentencing Project?
An example is when Blacks pay a higher "trial penalty" when compared to whites in some places in the United States. Here, studies has found out that Blacks are more likely to be jailed or have pending trial, and therefore they are seen to receive a form of harsher sentences than when compared to China that has homogeneous race.
The get-tough movement is known to be an approach or a kind of strategy used by U.S. criminal justice system. There is a big difference between the approach in the get-tough approach of arrests used on immigrants and that of African Americans. They seems to be more tough in handling African American than other immigrants.
Employers  refusal to employ a "rehabilitated" person or discriminate against people with a criminal record using the fact that they have a spent conviction is said to be unlawful under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 .
