Answer: The Great Compromise provided cause for great controversy throughout America. The nation’s ability to maintain traditional ideals alongside slavery came into question. Benjamin Franklin opposed slavery entirely within Pennsylvania, but most states continued to support it. This questioning resulted in the 3/5 Compromise, but racial conflict remained an issue for quite some time.

Additionally, fear of governmental taxation on exports became problematic. The Southern states relied heavily on exports to gain profit. They were concerned about foreign taxes harming their economy. Congress eventually enacted the Commerce Clause, giving them the power to regulate trade and taxation amongst states and foreign nations. This Clause kept trading free and open among states, as well as tax-free.
