Stock phrases are not as helpful as connectives when making a speech because they can become a source of distraction thus reducing the effectiveness of the speech and the ability of the audience to listen.

A stock phrase is one that is regularly used either intentionally or out of habit by a group of individuals or a person. Stock phrases are often associated with those who use them.

Examples of Stock Phrases are:

  • "I didn't do it". This one is used regularly by Bart Simpson.
  • Last but not least
  • Be that as it may etc.
