To ensure a separation of powers, the U.S. Federal Government is made up of three branches: legislative, executive and judicial. To ensure the government is effective and citizens’ rights are protected, each branch has its own powers and responsibilities, including working with the other branches.

executive branch is the President, Vice President, The Cabinet ( nominated by the president and must be approved by the Senate )

judicial branch is the supreme court and other federal courts

legislative branch is the congress, the senate, and the house of representatives.

All are important because they work on a system of checks and balances. The executive branch carries out the laws, the judicial branch evaluates the laws, the legislative branch makes the laws.
