The modern day Republican party is descended from anti-slavery leaders from the-Whig, Free Soil and Democratic parties. They formed the Republican Party in response to the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1856, which allowed settlers to determine whether or not a state would establish slavery, hope this helps!!!
I assume that you are talking about the "Republican" Party. The Republican Party was founded by Northern states in the year 1854, primarily by anti-slavery activists and former members of other political parties, such as the Wig Party. I hope that was helpful.
