I'm assuming the passage implied that the support Hitler recieved in germany was exponential. As he was most supported within germany during the 40s to 50s.
If the passage takes place in recent times, it's safe to say that the german people do NOT like Hitler. As time went on, people started to see the horrible things Hitler had done to the world.
